Professional Background
Brett received a Bachelor of International Studies (Hons) from Flinders University of South Australia (1997-2000) and a PhD from The Australian National University (2004). Prior to joining UNSW@ADFA in July 2007 he held positions at the ANU and at the University of Queensland. He is also a Visiting Fellow in the Centre for International Governance & Justice at the ANU. He has held visiting positions at the Centre for the Study of Democracy at the University of Westminster, London, and the Centre for Interdisciplinary Research at Bielefeld University, Germany.

Brett is a regular commentator and contributor in both the electronic (TV and radio) and print media in Australia. His essays have appeared in magazines such as Counterpunch and Online Journal, while his commentary and opinion columns have appeared in The Australian, Sydney Morning Herald, The Age and Sunday Age in Melbourne, The Canberra Times, Australian Policy Online, and Online Opinion. He is a regular expert commentator on international affairs for Radio 938 Live in Singapore and China Radio International, and has provided commentary for news services such as Yahoo! News, USA Today and The Straits Times.
